The musician performed selections from his debut album, as well as other popular singles, in a night full of emotion and dreaminess.
Sir Taegen C’aion Harris, better known as Love Spells, performed at Cat’s Cradle in Carrboro, NC, on September 19. Tickets quickly sold out for the venue’s Back Room soon after they went live. Despite this, the small venue still allowed for an intimate show where the crowd and artist could connect. This was perfect for an artist like Love Spells, whose debut album, “Love Is the Law,” seems meant for a dim stage, kept on beat by the sway of the crowd.
Harris, a 21-year-old Houston native, has made various genres of music since middle school. However, his current music and stage presence belie his age. The ethereal alt-pop vocals and slow-rock instrumentals from Love Spells feel effortless and polished both in the studio and on stage. Harris uses this sound to explore love and romance in all of their forms, evoking feelings of both warmth and melancholy. On stage, Love Spells is anything but static. Harris is a highly energetic presence with a talent for dance. He quickly moved from one side of the stage to the other, engaging with the entire crowd, all while doing splits and spins in between.
Love Spells got the crowd to sway and sing along from the very first song of the set—the 2025 single “Lovers Only,” a song about heartbreak. They played a few other singles, “Love Costs” and “Come Over and Love Me,” before playing the first selection from his debut album, “Keep It to Yourself,” which also happened to be one of the best performances of the show. Harris continued to dance and sing, removing a leather jacket and layers of shirts before continuing to perform shirtless. He was clearly having fun performing with the other backing musicians, at one point leaning up against one while they both played guitar, all while belting in his high-pitched falsetto. Other highlights, such as “Stupid” and “Crutch,” were performed before Love Spells ended the show. After the crowd demanded an encore, the band reappeared to play “Wish I Didn’t Love You.” Harris stuck around after the show to meet fans, sign merch, and take photos, showing that this rising star values the fans and community he has created through his music.
Love Spells continues to tour through October, moving back West before a finale show in Los Angeles.
